Blackbird
I was struggling to paint this background. I laid the color and then texturized. I found, after finishing, that it looked a lot like my Mother’s grasscloth walls {only in green).
Watercolor, 7.5 x 9.5
Dove
The Mourning Dove’s that feed in my back yard inspired me.
Watercolor, 8.5 x 10.5
Brown Pelican
I’ve enjoyed observing Brown Pelican’s during my trips with friends to Puerto Vallarta.
Watercolor, 7 x 10
Eagle
I’ve asked many people to describe their totem bird. Many times the answer has been “eagle.”
Watercolor, 9 x 13
Raven with Blue
I love ravens. They are so smart, playful and entertaining. Although black, they shimmer blue in certain light. .As my sight diminishes I am more aware of the form and lines of things before detail. I especially appreciate the curves and contrast of this composition.
Watercolor Pastel, 8 x 10
Hummingbird
I loved this Hummingbird, but I didn’t like the original background I painted of pink-red flowers. I then substituted a simple succulent for it’s perch.
Watercolor, 6 x 8
White Owl
After reading the Harry Potter series, I especially wanted a relationship with a White Owl.
Watercolor, 10 x 11.5
Jenny
My grade school companion. Her cage door was open during the day. She showered under the bathroom faucet, loved mirrors and shiny objects. She entertained me with the pitter-patter of her little feet and would say, “Jenny, pretty bird.”
Watercolor, 8 x 8
Western Gull
Searching ocean birds, I found this Gull on Pintrest. I loved the contemporary lines and simplicity of the interpretation.
Watercolor, 7.5 x 10
Raven
This raven was inspired from a picture on the internet. I loved the curve of the branch that followed the curve of his breast.
Watercolor, 7.5 x 9.5
Gambel Quail
Quail families frequent my backyard for the seed that I scatter for them. Exaggerating their color was fun for me..
Watercolor, 7.25 x 9.5
Rooster
On a Caribbean Cruise stopover, my companion Kathleen spotted this rooster and asked me to take it’s picture. Later she commissioned me to paint it for her kitchen. It’s now, double matted and beautifully framed, and resides in a special cove.
Watercolor, 9.5 x 12
Sheldon
Wally and Shelly, empty-nesters, adopted this cockatoo and shared so much excitement and love for this little fellow that I surprised them with a portrait from the many pictures they had shared with me.
